Business Consultant Advice for Entrepreneurs: How to Find the Right Job Candidate

If you are an entrepreneur, you might be uncertain about how to welcome another person into your business and expand your team. Unless your business has been in existence for more than 5 years already, it could be risky to hire new staff, plus the fact that the hiring process tends to be pricey as well. Therefore, you should be careful in hiring to make sure that you will get the person who is perfect for the job.

Follow these steps when hiring new employees to avoid wasting your time and money:

1. Be sure about what or who you are looking for
Before doing anything related to your search for the right employee, it is best to outline first what your problem is, as well as what skills you need to solve it. This will give you a clear idea of what job candidate to hire.

2. Get some referrals
If you know someone who might know a person who could be suitable for the job, you should certainly contact him or her and ask for a referral. Almost 90 percent of talented workers are likely to accept a job offer through a friend’s recommendation than through a recruiter.

3. Reply to candidates
When you’re hiring, you should expect to hear from a lot of people, and you should respond to them as quickly as you can.

4. Offer some sort of incentive for making referrals
By offering an incentive for every referral that you receive, people are going to be more willing to give you referrals! This doesn’t always have to be in the form of money, but make sure you return someone a favor for helping you out.

5. Utilize social media
Social media is widely used as a tool for sourcing the right individuals for a particular job or role. You may use it to announce the opening of a certain position in your company, or you may also use it to reach out to potential employees.

6. Use job boards
If you want to find the right person fast, you have to make your need known to more people. In this case, listing your job on a specialist board is a good idea. This will make your job ad more visible to the target professionals in your industry.

7. Arrange interviews immediately
The moment you have identified job applicants with high potential, you have to arrange a job interview immediately. You cannot let them wait to hear from you too long as it may urge them to look for other jobs.

8. Provide timely feedback

Whether you like the applicant or not, you have to let him or her know the status of their application as soon as possible. Give feedback in a timely manner to those who spent their time applying for a job in your company. You may seek advice from your business consultant also to make sure you pick the right candidate.
