Life Coaching Tips on Becoming Friends with Your Boss

Has it ever crossed your mind how cool it would be to befriend your boss? What if your boss is doing things that make you feel like he or she wants to be friends with you? When you come to think of it, it seems like a really good thing to make your boss one of your friends, but there are some reasons you should be cautious as well.

First of all, your boss is your boss. It is the job of your boss to tell you what you should and should not do to ensure the success of certain company goals. It is part of their job also to make sure that each of their employees is doing their best to produce quality work efficiently. You have to realize that no matter how friendly you think your boss is to you, he or she will have to fire you if they need to.

Another thing to think about is the kind of relationship you can afford to have with the boss who fired you. Would you still be willing to hang out with him or her after they refused to give you a chance to redeem yourself at work? But if you are ready to cut your friendship with someone easily and instantly, then you may try being friends with your boss.

The kind of treatment your boss-friend will have towards you may also create some issues in the workplace, which you may not be prepared to face. As you are your boss’s friend, there is a possibility that he or she will spend more time talking to you than other employees. This is something your coworkers may hate you for, obviously. On the other hand, it is also possible that your friend, who happens to be your boss also, will treat you just the same as the other workers. Wouldn’t you feel offended by this gesture? Would you be open-minded enough to understand that at work, he or she is your boss and not your friend?

Finally, you have to think if there is a really good reason for you to befriend your boss. I don’t mean it is wrong to have a friendly relationship with your supervisor, manager or employer, but there are other people in the workplace who you can focus on building friendships with first.

While there is nothing wrong with being kind to your boss, and vice-versa, you have to be aware also of the complications that such a relationship can have in your career, your boss’s career, and in the entire workplace. Instead, why don’t you look at your coworkers and just make an effort to have a positive working relationships with them. For sure, this is what any life coaching expert would also advise that you do.

Why Would a Business Coach Advise You to Hire Temp Workers?

The recession had brought about so many changes in our society. For instance, more people are now opting to rent than to buy their own property. Banks also say that people are now putting more money into their savings accounts than before. And in the workplace, companies are now turning to temporary employees.

Some organizations and businesses are still cynical as to why temporary employees are a better option compared to hiring using traditional methods. If you’re a business owner and are contemplating on bringing in temp workers, here are the benefits you will enjoy:

1. You’ve got less responsibility to your workers.
One of the best things about hiring candidates using local staffing agencies is that you, as the employer, are not going to be under so much pressure to keep your workers especially when things go wrong. If, for instance, your temp worker is not performing well, or if you are having financial troubles and you can’t keep them employed anymore, it will be easier for you to let them go. It is up to the staffing agency to find for them another employment.

2. It is preferred by many employees.
Interestingly, workers today are more likely to prefer doing temp jobs than having a long term job opportunity in an organization. The current lifestyle of employees today makes it more favorable to them to seek temporary positions. For some, they think of temp jobs as an opportunity to bridge employment gaps, whereas others choose to do temp work in an effort to balance their time between their job and their families. As an employer, you can benefit from this because you can expect your temp workers to be more motivated and engaged.

3. You can enjoy flexibility.
Especially if you are into a seasonal business, you would benefit a lot in a setup where you will hire only when you need to. And when the peak season is over, you can easily cut back on staff so you could keep your finances in the balance. Again, with temp workers, you won’t be tied into any commitment, and you won’t be pressured to keep them employed.

4. It presents an opportunity to diversify.
Hiring temp workers also allows you to diversify your services. Since you have the ability to get talents from different areas, you are in a position to offer different things related to your business. Hiring is easy as you just have to contact a staffing agency, and again, there is no need for you to commit to a long term working relationship with your temp workers.

As your business progresses, you may be advised by your business coach that hiring permanent employees will be better. But then again, until that time comes, there is no doubt that employing temporary workers is the best for your business.

In short, you will have to post your CV or resume on job sites, or you may also send or upload it directly on a company’s website. Since there will be many other job applicants using the same online method as you, it will be hard for employers to read resumes one by one. In terms of the content of your resume, it needs to have enough white space. Use bullets if possible, and don’t use very long sentences or paragraphs as this will turn readers off.

c. Insert a customized profile.
A profile at the top of your resume will make it unique and noticeable. Make sure that whatever you write in it is tailored for the job you’re applying to. Basically, your profile should include your experience, abilities and important skills, which should all be relevant to the requirements of the job you want to land. Your profile also has to be specific and eye-catching. Keep in mind also that this profile will introduce you to the employer, so it has to be a good one.

Small business entrepreneurs like you have so many things to think of, including finances, marketing, and even hiring. But there is another aspect of running a business that is often overlooked, but is actually very important in developing and growing your business – office design. Your office is where you and your workers spend most of your time, so it’s very important for it to have a design and layout that can boost employee efficiency, productivity, and mood.

Below are some reasons why office design plays an important role in improving workplace productivity:

Younger professionals are more comfortable in lounge settings.
According to studies, workers who are between the ages 18 and 34 feel more comfortable working in lounge settings compared to the traditional ones. It could be because Millenials grew up in a wireless world, so they are used to being mobile. Experts say that young professionals prefer to be in a workplace where they can choose how and where they will work.

To make sure you make the most out of your young workers’ talents and skills, you need to allow them to work in a setting that promotes productivity and creativity. You can do this by making the work space look more like a lounge where there is enough space for project materials and even coffee cups.

A good office design attracts talent, and is an important factor in keeping the talented ones.
While it is true that a higher salary and other benefits can easily attract candidates, many job seekers also consider the kind of work area an organization has when they are choosing a place to work in. A well design office space can be very attractive to job applicants. More importantly, a good office design promotes good relationships at work, flexibility and uniqueness among workers.

A well designed office leads to increased productivity.
Happy employees are productive employees. Studies reveal employee satisfaction is the result when employees are able to concentrate well, are free to express their ideas, and are able to work in teams without any distractions. Although there are several other things that can make this happen, one of the biggest contributing factors to this is how the work space is planned and designed.

Good office design improves well-being.
Workplace stress is known as one of the reasons why companies are not productive. Thus, it is important for managers and company owners to find ways to reduce stress among their employees, and office design can definitely be a huge help. Reach All Your Career Goals with the Help of a Personal Coach

Performance coaching is not only for business people who are looking to develop strategies for increasing their profit. Personal coaching is available to any individual who would like to advance their career and reach their ultimate goals. Whether you are looking for your first job or you’ve just changed careers, career or personal coaching can definitely help you go a step higher in your career.

Here are the ways a personal coach can make a difference in your life:

Getting on the right track
Having a clear career direction can be very challenging for many of us. When you think of your career path, it could be like being in a forest where you can’t find your way because of all the trees surrounding you. With a performance coach, you can easily talk about your ambitions and goals in your career, and even create a clearer path towards your dreams.

There are times also when you just feel so bored with your job, and this stops you from performing your best at work. Other factors could also affect the way you feel about your current career or job, such as family problems or divorce, perhaps. These things can easily take your focus away from your career. In these situations, a career coach will help you find good reasons to love your job or career. A coach will also get you focused on your career path once again.

Dealing with conflicts
Conflicts may be from outside or from within you. There could be issues in your life that are causing you to lose track of your career goals, or are making it difficult for you to resolve issues in your career. Let’s say that you are a nurse whose ultimate goal is to be a doctor, and you find it so difficult to have time and money to take your career to the next level. To make things worse, you actually love your job as a nurse, but at the same time you know that you will only be satisfied when you become a doctor already.

In this case, it would really help if you get someone to talk to. A career coach will help you figure things out not only with your current situation, but with your emotions as well. Your coach will ask you questions whose answers will make you realize by yourself what you need to do to find satisfaction in your job and career.

Achieving your goals

Perhaps the most important role of a career or personal coach is to serve as your teacher and guide as you navigate your way towards your chosen career path. Your coach will share his or her experiences with you, and will give you tools that will make it easier for you to realize all your dreams and ambitions.

Career Coaching Programs and Other Ways to Keep Your Best Employees

Finding the right job candidate is not a simple task for any hiring manager. In fact, businesses and organizations spend a lot of time and other resources to hire, recruit and also train new employees. Thus, it is important for companies to have a specific strategy they will use not only to attract the best job seekers, but also to make them stay once they’ve accepted the job offer.

Here’s how you can attract and keep the best job candidates out there:

Spread the word about your job opening.
To be able to attract as many job prospects as possible, you’ve got to find an efficient and effective way to let the world know about your available job opportunities. The internet will be an important tool you can use to recruit qualified candidates. If you want to reach hundreds or even thousands of job seekers in the least possible amount of time, make sure you have your job listing posted on career websites, online job boards, and even your social media profiles.

Be extra cautious when hiring.
Since hundreds of applications and resumes come to you every single day, it is likely that you will spend very little time scanning and selecting documents. It is common practice for hiring managers to spend only a few seconds on each document, but you have to make sure that you can get all the information you need in such a short time.

Look for a total team player.
Only hire applicants who are passionate about their career and are excited about being able to work with your team. It is important that your chosen candidate possess exemplary personalities and attitudes that make them nice to work with. Avoid hiring an employee who thinks too much of himself as this is often the type of person who decides to change jobs or careers when opportunities come their way.

Find out what makes your employees happy and satisfied.
Now that you’ve found the greatest talents and personalities out there, you have to focus on how you’re going to keep them. As a leader, it is important that you find out what keeps your employees excited and motivated in their work. Don’t think that money is always what can keep people in their jobs. As a matter of fact, employees today get motivated more by the advancement opportunities they are given by their employers.

Treat your employees as individuals and not just paid workers.

In order for your best employees to choose to stay with you, you’ve got to treat them as individuals and not just someone you pay to do the work. Know their individual strengths, weaknesses, and needs. Communicate with them on a regular basis, and offer appreciation when necessary. You may even offer them career coaching programs just so they could feel that you care about their wellness and development as individuals and professionals.
