Career Coaching: Is It Good to Get a Transition Job?

Getting a survival job is almost always a good decision whether you have just graduated from college or you’ve just quit a dead-end job. You have to be a bit cautious, however, because although transition jobs are careers in themselves also, it may not be the suitable job for you in the long term. Read on to get some ideas on how you should decide when it comes to transitioning.

What Are Your Priorities?

The best way to start your planning is to come up with a list that details all your priorities and rank them according to their importance or urgency perhaps. Once your list is ready, the next thing you should think about is the timescale.

What is it that you need right now?

MONEY
In terms of how many hours you should work, it actually depends on whether you need the money to survive or to save. If you are saving for something big and important, it might be necessary for you to work longer hours. It would help if you could cut back on your daily expenses as well. Always have a goal and a realistic timeframe.

Meanwhile, if you’re just waiting for a new job opportunity, working part-time may be ideal. This way, you will still have time to focus on your preparations for your job search. This will prevent you from wasting precious time and will allow you to easily grab a good employment opportunity that may come your way.

TIME
Many of us need time to figure out what to do next. This is very common among those who decided to quit their jobs to find something more meaningful and fulfilling. If you are in this situation, a part-time position would be best. If a flexible full-time position is available, you might as well grab it then. What’s important is that you have the time to go to job interviews and other things required for your job application.

How Can You Keep Motivated?

One of the challenges of getting a transition job is that it could easily make you feel as if you are wasting your time. This is the result of knowing that your job is not what you want yourself to have in the future. But you should not let this attitude rule you. When you keep on thinking of your job this way, it will reflect on your performance. It is also unfair to your employer who is paying you for your services.

If you feel you need expert guidance on this matter, taking on a career coaching program may be suitable. Your career coach will help you figure out what you want to happen in your career, and he or she will equip you with the knowledge and skills that will enable you to achieve all your career goals.

Career Coaching Programs and Other Ways to Keep Your Best Employees

Finding the right job candidate is not a simple task for any hiring manager. In fact, businesses and organizations spend a lot of time and other resources to hire, recruit and also train new employees. Thus, it is important for companies to have a specific strategy they will use not only to attract the best job seekers, but also to make them stay once they’ve accepted the job offer.

Here’s how you can attract and keep the best job candidates out there:

Spread the word about your job opening.
To be able to attract as many job prospects as possible, you’ve got to find an efficient and effective way to let the world know about your available job opportunities. The internet will be an important tool you can use to recruit qualified candidates. If you want to reach hundreds or even thousands of job seekers in the least possible amount of time, make sure you have your job listing posted on career websites, online job boards, and even your social media profiles.

Be extra cautious when hiring.
Since hundreds of applications and resumes come to you every single day, it is likely that you will spend very little time scanning and selecting documents. It is common practice for hiring managers to spend only a few seconds on each document, but you have to make sure that you can get all the information you need in such a short time.

Look for a total team player.
Only hire applicants who are passionate about their career and are excited about being able to work with your team. It is important that your chosen candidate possess exemplary personalities and attitudes that make them nice to work with. Avoid hiring an employee who thinks too much of himself as this is often the type of person who decides to change jobs or careers when opportunities come their way.

Find out what makes your employees happy and satisfied.
Now that you’ve found the greatest talents and personalities out there, you have to focus on how you’re going to keep them. As a leader, it is important that you find out what keeps your employees excited and motivated in their work. Don’t think that money is always what can keep people in their jobs. As a matter of fact, employees today get motivated more by the advancement opportunities they are given by their employers.

Treat your employees as individuals and not just paid workers.

In order for your best employees to choose to stay with you, you’ve got to treat them as individuals and not just someone you pay to do the work. Know their individual strengths, weaknesses, and needs. Communicate with them on a regular basis, and offer appreciation when necessary. You may even offer them career coaching programs just so they could feel that you care about their wellness and development as individuals and professionals.

Interview and Career Coaching: Tips for Overcoming Nervousness

Walking into a job interview is just too scary for many of us. And why not? How you perform during the interview will determine whether or not you will have the job you’re applying for. And although there are only you and the interviewer inside the room, it’s hard to stay calm because you know you’re in the spotlight.

A job interview is where you will make a presentation about yourself. Your goal is to sell yourself and convince the interviewer that you’re the best person for the job. Thus, it’s important that you not let your apprehension get in the way.

Here’s how you can battle your nervousness:

1. Breathe!
Breathing is an essential step in keeping your nerves steady. It seems like a simple thing to do, but interestingly, many people forget to breathe well when they are nervous.

By doing deep breaths, you’re allowing the oxygen to move into your brain, which makes it easier for you to find answers even to the toughest question you’re given.

2. Be Well Prepared
You have time before the actual interview, so you can’t make any excuses about not having the chance to rehearse or practice what you’re going to say in an interview. If you want to be confident on that big day, you must be well-versed in everything that’s written in the job description, and also how your skills and experience make you qualified to handle the job.

3. Practice Speaking
Pay attention also to the quality and tone of your speaking voice. During interviews, you must keep your rhythm relaxed and even. Also, you should have the right tone and volume of voice. Avoid being monotone and super excited as well.

4. Stick to Your Message
As you start talking about yourself, or perhaps answering the interviewer’s questions, keep your message accurate and clear. Avoid mentioning irrelevant details or information as this will affect the quality of your message. When the interviewer gives you a question, take a couple of seconds to think about how you could best answer the question. Start with a small detail and elaborate on it if needed.

5. Believe You’re Talking to a Human Being
One thing that can make you really nervous during an interview is intimidation. At times, we are intimidated by the fact that we’re talking with someone with high stature. But if you come to think of it, a hiring manager or even the actual CEO of a company is just a human being. He or she could feel like you. Thus, you’ve got to learn to recognize their gestures or facial expressions, which could indicate whether they’re enjoying talking to you or not.

If it’s your first time to look for a job and you’re just not ready for a formal job interview, taking on a career coaching program is a great way to prepare yourself for this huge opportunity to land your dream job.

Career Coaching Tips on Dealing with Boss Problems

Are you in a situation where it seems like there is no other way you and your boss could work well together? Well, this doesn’t necessarily mean you literally hate each other; but you just feel that things could be a lot better between the two of you. Quitting your job and looking for a new one won’t make things right, so the best you can do is try to figure out how your employer-employee relationship will be better. You can consult a career coaching professional also if you need help in fixing issues with your boss.

The following are some tips on how you should deal with your boss so your career will not have to suffer:

1. Get to know your boss more.

Keep in mind that bosses are all different in so many ways, just as no two individuals are totally the same. You may have worked for another manager or supervisor in the past whom you think had the ideal traits of an effective boss, but this doesn’t mean your present boss should be like him or her. For you to avoid clashing with your boss, you have to figure out what he is expecting from you. It would be good also to know how he likes presentations to be made, or even how he wants his coffee.

2. Never avoid your boss.

Many of us tend to avoid interacting with people who are in higher positions. The problem is that limiting your contact with your boss could lead to loss of respect and trust on both parties. Needless to say, lack of communication results in more problems, especially misunderstandings.

3. Be professional and don’t bad-mouth.

It is so tempting to speak ill of your boss in front of your coworkers, but this is a clear sign of lack of professionalism and maturity on your part. Whatever disagreements you may have with your boss, it is a must that you handle it with care. Express your concerns to him so he would know where you’re coming from as well.

4. Look at the positive side of things.

If you don’t like your boss, it becomes easy to feel that he doesn’t like you either. Thus, you will feel sort of paranoid every time you hear him making comments about your work. Being on the negative side will bring nothing but negativity, and is a real career killer. Always be reasonable and have perspective when dealing with your boss.

While it is true that your boss plays an important role in your career advancement, it is still up to you to make your relationship with your boss work to your advantage. It’s not an easy task, of course, but getting some guidance from a career coaching professional will make a really huge difference.

What Coaching Centers Could Really Do

Each day, we strive to find the purpose of our lives and although we may fail to see what we are really on this earth for, we are not giving up until we find it. Not being able to find it right away could lead us to take a different path, far different than what was planned for us, and by taking this path, we can’t avoid making a lot of mistakes that end up making us frustrated, unhappy and useless.

We can keep asking ourselves the same question over and over again, what do I really want to do with my life? This is a dilemma that most of us are facing and having a hard time with. Feeling inadequate, people jump from one job to another and switch from partners to partners in the hope of finding happiness and contentment.  If you think you have done everything you can to better your life but you feel that you are not getting anywhere, then perhaps it is time to go to a coaching center.

Coaching centers offer a variety of service that could help you improve your life and reach your goals, starting from the different professionals called life coaches that can provide assistance in your career, your personal relationships, your diet, lifestyle, business and the many issues that have been preventing you to reach your dreams. They have clinical trainings and are experts in handling these issues and could provide a step by step process that will work for any individual.

They do not only provide assistance to let you reach your goals but they also encourage you to become better day by day and perhaps, find out the true meaning of your life. All of us have been through ups and downs and have encountered challenges that almost made us give up yet we are still here, we survived and still clueless on what to do next.

Challenges at school and at work are unavoidable because these two are the basic part of our lives that we need to undergo so a better understanding of what you want to become and what you want to happen to your career is very crucial. Knowing your interests and identifying your goals will help you achieve them. You need to have a thorough discussion with your coach about your life and what makes you happy so he could design a program or a strategy that is made especially for your needs.

Relationships are very challenging since this could sometimes make or break a person. A harmonious relationship at home, at school, and at work could provide the contentment you are looking for. Sometimes, knowing that you are safe, loved, trusted and respected is enough to make you a better person and achieve your goals in life. A life coach could help you achieve this and provide you steps you can take to keep a good relationship with the people you are with everyday.

The Many Benefits Of Executive Career Coaching

Executive mentoring is where a senior and more experienced employee takes on the task of guiding and helping a newer or more inexperienced employee to gain a better understanding of their position and the overall culture of the workplace. This kind of mentoring has been a common practice for a lot of companies, obviously because of all of its benefits to the company as a whole.

Employee Performance
The less experienced employees who receive career coaching from their mentors, who are their executives at the same time, gain a clearer understanding of what their company is about and how it operates. A mentor offers valuable insight into how the company makes decisions, which new employees need to learn as well.

Two-Way Learning
In an executive mentoring relationship, the mentees are not the only ones who learn. In fact, the executive mentors also acquire new insight on how the younger generation thinks. As a result, those senior executives become more informed and aware of the line of thinking of their younger counterparts. Hence, they become better leaders with the deeper understanding of how others approach their jobs.

Improved Networking
Through executive mentoring relationships, both parties develop and enhance their professional and personal networks. A mentor will often let his or her mentee meet important people within and outside of the company. In the same way, a mentor could get to meet and utilize their mentee’s networks too. For both the mentor and the mentee, this is a great tool towards career enrichment.

Loyalty
Those employees who receive mentoring from their executives are likely to develop loyalty to their organization. As a result, they often prefer to stay within their company until they reach higher positions. This is a huge benefit to the company considering that it means lower employee turnover rates, which then means reduced expenses for finding and training new employees. It is also proven that companies with experienced and solid workforce are more stable amidst economic struggles than those companies who always have to deal with employee turnover.

More Satisfied Workers
Employees who receive training from experienced executives typically have a sense of pride from being mentored by the experts. This translates to the building of their self-esteem and confidence. When this happens, the kind of work that they do is better and more efficient. In addition, they feel that they are growing with the company and are becoming more valuable members of the organization.

In many cases, mentoring is what helps workers determine their career pathways. Mentees appreciate the guidance that they get, and their performance levels go up significantly. More importantly, they feel more than willing to serve as the mentor for other younger employees in the future.

Resume And Career Services: What Makes A Great Resume?

resume and career services

It is never an easy task to look for a job, especially now that employers are already very particular about the individuals that they employ. It is for this reason that as a job seeker, you should not hesitate to spend time in preparing the documents you need, such as your resume. There are many ways you can write your resume, but you may never know which one is the most appropriate to use. Thus, research is needed for you to have an idea of what an effective resume looks like.

Hiring resume and career services is another way you can make sure you are submitting a professional looking resume. While this is an additional investment for you, seeking help from professional resume writer will boost your chance of landing a great job. Here is what you should look for in a good resume.

Qualities of an Effective Resume
Good Impression
As they say, first impressions always last. As soon as a hiring manager gets hold of a resume, he takes a quick look at it. When he finds something interesting about a resume, he will surely continue to read it. What this means is that it should be your goal to get the attention of a prospective employer and make him want to continue reading your resume. Remember that it takes just 30 seconds for an employer to decide whether a resume should be kept in his files or be thrown in the trash bin.

Concise and Specific
A great resume is one that contains concise and targeted sentences. For instance, if you want to describe your duties in the past, you should give the reader a clearer picture of what you used to do. So, instead of stating that you “supervised sales personnel”, you could state it this way: “supervised 15 members of the sales department and closed deals instigated by sales people”.

 Appropriate Format
The most preferred resume format by employers is the chronological format. The reason is that such a format puts more emphasis on the work history of the job applicant. This is beneficial on the part of the applicant also especially if he or she does not have excessive employment gap.

Preferred Skills
Employers are always in search for various skills and personality traits when choosing the best candidate for the position. This can be explained by the fact that every single position they are looking to fill has varying requirements. But in general, and according to career coaching experts, companies are in favor of applicants who have excellent communication skills, great work ethic, outstanding interpersonal skills, adaptability, and organizational skills. These are the traits that you need to include in your resume to be considered for the job you are applying for.
