Top 5 Habits to be Successful at Work

Most people who are successful in their careers acquire certain important qualities that make them standout from the rest of the crowd. Of course, these qualities lead them to be the best they can be in every endeavor and open more doors for opportunities which they readily receive in good faith. Some are fortunate enough to be born in a family who possess money, power and connection; good fortune is what they call it and because of this, they were properly trained at a very young age to become aware and to fully understand the importance of being successful thus giving them an advantage over those who are less fortunate.

There are a few common traits that can make anyone successful in their chosen career; here are the following:

1. Passion – passionate people love what they are doing and so you can expect them to always give their best in their performances or even on the little things that they need to accomplish. They have a zest for life and they use this to guide their endeavors in life. This trait can’t be seen in everyone but can simply be embraced by increasing the amount of enthusiasm you possess.

2. Focus - keep your eyes on the goal because you know you are doing something significant. Whenever you are too bored and tired to wake up in the morning and go to work, you can use this as an approach to help you get back on track and eventually make things happen by continuous effort and passion.

3. Time Management – remember to make priorities and follow a strict schedule to be able to accomplish things. Remember that you cannot afford to waste your time as this will just slow you down in accomplishing all the tasks that are assigned to you; thus making your career success really slow. Do not let unimportant things prevent you from completing your tasks and distract you from your goals.

4. Scheduling – you need to manage your tasks in accordance to what needs to be done as soon as possible to be able to make a list of the things you need to do tomorrow. Remember that delaying important tasks will just ruin your schedule for the whole week.

5. Move forward – always move forward and do not give up even if there are certain challenges that might stop you along the way. Grab every good opportunity as long as it can help advance your career.

These 5 simple steps are just words that you can read from a magazine or hear from your colleagues but in order for you to become successful, you need to possess all of them. This is an example of career management because you know where you are headed in your life and you need to embrace these qualities in order to achieve all your goals. Make them as your guide in creating the life you have always dreamed of.

On the Way to a Fulfilling Career

Career planning knows no time and boundaries, and for all we know, it is a continuous process no matter how successful or confused we are with our current jobs. It helps us learn new things and develop to be the best person that we can be no matter where we are in our lives right now. Some people start planning their careers even at a young age and whether what happens next is desirable or not, they just keep on going until they reach their goals. The key in career planning is to always, always follow your heart because it will always be about you and your happiness in the end.

There are times when no matter how much you plan your career, you end up and still stuck  in a career you hate, feeling like you go to a prison cell everyday. But then again, it is entirely up to you to turn it all around and make your current job a fulfilling one. The question is how? Yes, there are people who are content to be regular employees, no positions whatsoever and then there are those who are called the lucky ones, the ones on top, the executives who can command any given time of the day. And there are those who are in the middle, the managers who are responsible for making sure that the regular employees do their jobs well yet still report to the executives at the end of the day. If the operation didn’t do well, they will have to answer to the big bosses. They have people reporting to them and they act as the people in between who relay information from the regular employees to the top executives. Their jobs are probably the most difficult yet they remain underrated.

The job of middle managers is very stressful that is why you would normally hear them complain and some work very hard to get promoted to escape the tremendous demands of their job. Now, you naturally have an option to switch careers to find fulfillment or to stay in the same company with the same goal. It is entirely up to you. Mind setting and changing your perspectives can definitely help but if these won’t be able to help you, we have here some tips on how to find fulfillment in your career. At least you know where and how to start.

1. Explore – explore not just your options but the company and the people you work with. Take time to reflect about yourself and your current situation, there must be a reason why you are holding on to that job for so long. Think of the many possibilities where you might learn to love your job, but if you really don’t, explore other options or careers that spark your interest enough to make you switch to it.

2. Prepare yourself – invest on trainings and courses that will enhance your skills and make you in demand in the workforce. This will speed up your dream for a promotion.

3. Overcome your weaknesses – work on your fears and weaknesses, try to overcome them slowly to achieve your maximum potential as a person, a worker, and as a friend.

4. Plan a strategy – once you identify what you really want to do, focus on that, write down a strategic plan to achieve your goal whether it is switching to another company or stay in the current one.

The way to a fulfilling career is entirely up to you because you are in total control of your body and mind and you can do whatever you choose to do. So always follow your heart and never give up to live the life you have always wanted.

Five Basic Steps in Planning Your Future Career

Career planning is one of the important processes that we have to undergo in order to secure our future. Although it sounds overwhelming, it can actually be fairly simple if done with the right amount of preparation and dedication. Here are five basic steps that can serve as your guide:

Step 1: Self-Evaluation
  • Self-evaluation is the process of assessing your personality, skills, knowledge, interests, qualifications, and expertise.
  • It is easier to look for careers that match your passions and abilities.
  • According to psychologists, those who conduct self-awareness processes before choosing professions have reported up to 80 percent higher satisfaction levels with their careers.
  • You can do quick self-assessment tests online. There are plenty of sites that structure tests to provide possible job options based on your answers to the self-evaluation questions.
Step 2: Explore Options
  • A lot of patience is needed in this step since you will need to research on different careers that you can embark on based on the data that you have gathered in Step 1.
  • Start by listing down general fields of interest that suit your identity. Examples of these general fields are health, media, politics, art, education, commerce, and entertainment.
  • Focus on your field of choice and look for possible specializations. For example, if you are interested in media, you can choose from more specific jobs such as being a journalist, broadcaster, or producer.
  • Explore work options, availability, and the competition in the job market.
  • Find out what skills and qualification are needed in order to prosper in your chosen profession.
  • Also check opportunities for career development and the compensation offered for your prospective job.
Step 3: Make a Decision
  • Based on your answers on Step 1 and on the choices that you have in Step 2, make a choice.
  • The probability of success is high if your skills, interests, and credentials match your career prospects.
Step 4: Prepare to Market Yourself
  • Make resume that highlights your educational background, training experience, and skills that are related to the position that you want.
  • If you do not have a good background about the new profession that you want, you can apply for vocational classes, volunteer as interns, or enroll in a formal degree. These could take time but could definitely help you easily get employed later on.
Step 5: Apply
  • Look for desired jobs from classified ad listings and online notice boards. You can also ask your family and friends for any referrals.
  • Make yourself constantly available for possible interviews and pre-employment training.
  • Create meaningful networks with persons in your chosen career pathways increase chances of hiring.

What You Can Do to Stay Focused at Work

You will surely agree when I say that one of the most difficult things to do at work is to concentrate. There are so many distractions around that can keep us from finishing the tasks we are supposed to complete. Nevertheless, employees need to do a better job of staying well disciplined to make sure they will have a productive day at work. If you are finding it hard to keep your concentration when you work, here are some tips that may help you.

1. Divide your work into smaller pieces. Trying to do too many things in one day can be very overwhelming. Thus, what you’d want is to make a list of all the tasks you need to accomplish according to which ones are important. This way, your mind will be able to pay attention to a more manageable amount of information. As you finish one task, leave your desk for a while to have a short breather, and then go on to finish another task on your list.

2. Don’t forget to reward yourself for your accomplished work. There is actually nothing wrong with using your Facebook or Twitter every once in a while. You just mustn’t let them eat up your time for work. What you can do instead is use them as your reward for finishing up some work on time. Every time you complete a task on your list, you can allow yourself to visit any social media site to keep yourself updated. This way, you will have something to look forward to doing after your work is done.

3. Let the right music motivate you. Music has this unbelievable ability to keep us motivated. If you haven’t tried listening to music while working, well you may be surprised with what it can do to your mood. Choose a song that is not to noisy or distracting, but don’t go for those songs that could make you fall asleep. Pick a happy song that will just lift your spirit and keep you energized as you work.

4. Hide yourself. If you want to avoid all the unnecessary messages or emails from your coworkers or friends while you are at work, you may as well hide yourself. You can do this by turning off the chat options in your computer, or change your status to “Do Not Disturb.” If you don’t want to have even short chats with your coworkers in the office, you should always try to appear busy with your work. You may even wear your headphones to discourage those who want to have a conversation with you.

5. Keep your passion burning. Perhaps the most important factor that may affect your level of productivity at work is your passion for what you are doing. By doing what you love, there is no doubt that you will be successful in your job and your career pathways in general.

The Many Benefits Of Executive Career Coaching

Executive mentoring is where a senior and more experienced employee takes on the task of guiding and helping a newer or more inexperienced employee to gain a better understanding of their position and the overall culture of the workplace. This kind of mentoring has been a common practice for a lot of companies, obviously because of all of its benefits to the company as a whole.

Employee Performance
The less experienced employees who receive career coaching from their mentors, who are their executives at the same time, gain a clearer understanding of what their company is about and how it operates. A mentor offers valuable insight into how the company makes decisions, which new employees need to learn as well.

Two-Way Learning
In an executive mentoring relationship, the mentees are not the only ones who learn. In fact, the executive mentors also acquire new insight on how the younger generation thinks. As a result, those senior executives become more informed and aware of the line of thinking of their younger counterparts. Hence, they become better leaders with the deeper understanding of how others approach their jobs.

Improved Networking
Through executive mentoring relationships, both parties develop and enhance their professional and personal networks. A mentor will often let his or her mentee meet important people within and outside of the company. In the same way, a mentor could get to meet and utilize their mentee’s networks too. For both the mentor and the mentee, this is a great tool towards career enrichment.

Loyalty
Those employees who receive mentoring from their executives are likely to develop loyalty to their organization. As a result, they often prefer to stay within their company until they reach higher positions. This is a huge benefit to the company considering that it means lower employee turnover rates, which then means reduced expenses for finding and training new employees. It is also proven that companies with experienced and solid workforce are more stable amidst economic struggles than those companies who always have to deal with employee turnover.

More Satisfied Workers
Employees who receive training from experienced executives typically have a sense of pride from being mentored by the experts. This translates to the building of their self-esteem and confidence. When this happens, the kind of work that they do is better and more efficient. In addition, they feel that they are growing with the company and are becoming more valuable members of the organization.

In many cases, mentoring is what helps workers determine their career pathways. Mentees appreciate the guidance that they get, and their performance levels go up significantly. More importantly, they feel more than willing to serve as the mentor for other younger employees in the future.

Reassessing Your Life/Work Balance and Working with a Life Coach

Life coach

Do you sometimes feel so sick and tired with your life? Do you feel that the 24 hours in a day isn’t enough to get everything done? Is the stress you are having from work already affecting your personal life and relationship with your loved ones? Perhaps it is time that you reevaluate your current work/life balance.

A Look into Your Work/Life Balance.
Many people are not aware that their lives are already being affected by all the pressures they get from work. In your case, you may be unintentionally neglecting your hobbies, family, and friends because you are just so caught up with everything you need to do at work. This isn’t a good sign for you, and this can signal that you perhaps need to work with a life coach

The sad truth is that those who spend a huge amount of time on their jobs or careers indeed earn good income, but they don’t have time to do the things that can make them happy and fulfilled. Finding the right balance between work and life means having the ability to divide your time for all the important things in your life. If this is something you cannot do, then there must be changes in the way you are living your life.

Life must be about maintaining balance between earning a living and doing things you enjoy. If you fail to do this, you will just wake up one day feeling that life is no longer pleasurable.

Reasons for Reassessing Your Work/Life Balance.
There are a number of reasons people eventually decide to reassess the balance between their life and work. These include:
- feeling tired and exhausted most of the time
- not having enough time to spend with family and friends
- work is starting to become the focal point of their lives
- not having any time to not think about work
- not being able to find time to enjoy their hobbies
- having negative feelings about going to work
- always feeling the pressures of life
- not being able to enjoy life anymore

How Life Coaching Can Help You.
Life coaching can be very beneficial to you in that a coach can guide you in living the kind of life you want to have. Needless to say, you will have to make some sacrifices and compromises even in your own career pathways, but if this is the only way you could be both productive and happy, then there’s no reason you should hesitate to do it. Keep in mind that life is too short, and so every single day should be an opportunity for you to live life to the fullest. With the help of a life coaching professional, you will see things differently, and you will start to see your goals clearly.
